SUMMER CONSERVATORY

2022 Conservatory

Kids and Teens, if you’re looking for the best summer theatre experience in the desert, The Green Room Summer Theatre Conservatory is for you! Kids ages 8 to 12 will train mornings, and teens will train weekday afternoons in June at the extraordinary CREATE Center for the Arts in Palm Desert. Then in July the whole company comes together for two weeks of intensive rehearsals in the beautiful Performing Arts Center at Shadow Hills High School. Every student will perform for two exciting weekends in the “mid-century modern” Broadway classic, Damn Yankees, on July 15, 16, 22 and 23. Plus there’s a special showcase opportunity for kids ages 8 to 12 based on a popular story, entitled “The Bullfight that Wasn’t”.

The award-winning Green Room Conservatory offers training with top Teaching Artists regardless of students’ ability to pay. Students at every level are challenged to grow as artists and improve their skills. Small class sizes make instruction personal, fun and emotionally safe. Many students return year after year and become close friends through middle school, high school, college, and beyond. Green Room graduates have gone on to major in theatre at university, or are building successful careers in professional theatre and film.

We are a Career Pathway Program. That means the Conservatory offers sixty motivated students top-quality training in acting, dance, singing, improvisation, stage voice, script analysis, and technical theatre. High School Students – the Conservatory also hires and trains as many as six paid high school interns.

A note from Director David Catanzarite: Don’t try to judge Damn Yankees in advance by watching the old movie… Our production will be a fresh and fast take on the original Broadway musical, which ran for 1,019 performances!
